Wireline Coring is the solution when continuous cuts of core are required. By using the specialized wireline equipment, continuous core samples can be cut and retrieved without tripping the drill string. This method of coring is conducted to analyze long sections of gas bearing shale's, heavy oil sands and coal bed methane formations. It is also effective for quickly bringing core to surface to preserve it in near-natural state. Foothills'standard system cuts 2 ¾ inch cores in a 6 ¼ inch bore hole. A drill ahead system may also be provided. Through the 45+ year history of the company, Foothills has also designed and developed special PDC core heads for use in these formations. A low invasion design prevents washing of the core and preserves core integrity allowing for better core analysis. Foothills continues to enhance the wireline coring system to allow for better core recovery, lower costs, and high core quality. The near five decades of experience provide Foothills clients unsurpassed expertise in this coring application. In some cases, a combination of wireline and conventional coring provides the best alternative for a coring program. Foothills has specialized and coordinated equipment that allows the maximum core size to be recovered form the hole size used for such a coring program. |
